The first set was marked Made in Germany-Occupied Territory, which was end of WWII continuing for a short period. I gave a set away, then discovered the other two simply said West Germany but were otherwise identical. He said he was selling them for up to $500 a set, which I find baffling. I haven't wanted to disturb their crypt, but as they are starting to get rust spots, I think I need to measure them so I can see if friends who use old DeArmond pickups & play 30's-50's jazz find them appealing for their old sound. The company dates back to at least 1920 with the Markneukirchen instrument industry center...some modern German guitar brands have a connection to that city (Framus, for example, I think).
